In the Foundation Stage at Mulgrave School we aim to provide our children with the best start in life. Working alongside other agencies, we support children by engaging with their parents, carers, extended family and the wider community. Through play, in a safe, caring environment, all our children are encouraged to become creative, confident, independent, lifelong learners.
In the Nursery and Reception classes we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS), which is especially suited to the needs of young children. There are seven areas of learning and development, which are all inter-connected. The following three prime areas are particularly important for children’s capacity to learn and helping them build good relationships with others.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Laguage
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Our topic for Spring term is ‘Our enchanted world’. We will be focusing our learning on the stories ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘The three little pigs’, and ‘Jack and the bean stalk.
We would like to encourage all parents/carers to read both fiction and non-fiction books with their children at home. Please discuss the facts and images in the information books and talk about the feelings of the characters in the stories with your child.
The children are to produce a fantastic piece of work based on one of the stories above. They can draw their designs, paint characters, bake and write recipes, use ICT, sew etc.
We encourage all parents/carers to support their children in this project. This homework is due on for show and tell.
