Key Stage 1

Summer Term

YEAR 1

In English we are exploring the text Where the Wild Things Are.   The children will spend the first 3 weeks immersed in the story where they will write a character description based on their own wild thing puppets. The final 3 weeks will be used to explore non fiction texts around insects and their habitats. They will write a factual report about their chosen insect and display these through habitat trioramas.   During this term both classes will visit Oxleas Wood for a ‘wild rumpus’ where children can explore a woodland habitat for different insects.

Year 1
In Maths this half term the children will be working learning new skills in time identifying both o’clock and half past.  They will be introduced to multiplication and division which will build on their skills of counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.  They will be developing this further using their problem solving skills. They will finish the term learning about fractions – half and quarters.

Year 1 2                               Y1 2

YEAR 2

Our learning this term will be based around our core text "The Jungle Book". We will begin the term by reading the story. We will then look at the character of Mowgli and generate a character description based on what we have read about him in the text. We will learn about how to build up action in our writing and we will re-write the conflict scene between the animals in the jungle!
Year 2 1

In maths this half term, the children will be learning how to turn the time. We will be learning how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes off of an analogue clock. We will compare and order units of time and link them to time in every day life. We will explore symmetry in shapes and look at positional language. We will continue to use challenges in our maths learning as a way to deepen children's learning and allow them to apply their maths skills in different contexts.

year 2 2
Our science learning will be linked to the topic of everyday materials. The children will extend their knowledge from Year 1 and test the suitability of different materials for different things, e.g. how does paper react to screwing it up? Can you smooth it out?
Year 2 3
